• When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

  I started practicing chess when I moved to the UK and began my academic degree. My grandfather taught me how to play chess when I was seven years old. I would remain forever grateful to him for opening the world of chess to me.

• Which artists or works affect you the most?

  One of my most favourite chess players of all time is Mikhail Tal. Tal played in an attacking and daring combinatorial style. His play was known above all for improvisation and unpredictability. My natural style of play resonates with Tal's style. However, I do not teach attacking chess to my students, unless they specifically ask or show passion in this style of play.

• What are the qualities and skills required to succeed in this area?

  Interpersonal skills are vital to succeed as a Chess Coach. You have to make sure you know your students very well. Some students are goal-oriented, whilst others prefer to learn the game at their own pace. I truly believe that understanding their needs and communicating well with them will make the world for them when they have chess lessons.

• How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

  My passion is not a hobby but a lifestyle. I have to play chess and I have to teach chess. I cannot see myself without playing and/or teaching chess. I absolutely love when I perform well in my games, and I also equally love when I see my students achieve their goals.

• Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

  Yes. I have one particular student who has become a better player than me in no time. They were not only able and talented, but also hard-working.

• Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

  I am a competitive player with a very good understanding of the core principles in chess. I have played chess for many years now and I trust that my experience has made me the Superprof I am. I dedicate time almost every day to my personal development as a Coach and as a player. Ultimately, my students benefit from both.
