My Teaching Methodology

Chess as Logic, Art, and Storytelling
I believe chess should be both rigorous and inspiring. Together, we’ll explore strategy, tactics, opening secrets, endgame mastery, and the stories behind the moves in an interactive and engaging environment.

From Intuition to Mastery
Using modern tools and resources, I help you develop natural, intuitive moves—so the board “speaks” to you and reveals connections you never noticed before.

Beyond Memorization
Rather than relying on rote learning, I teach you to think like a chess player: patient, creative, and always three steps ahead.

Lifelong Skills
Chess isn’t just a game—it’s a tool to sharpen your focus, discipline, and decision-making in life. My goal is not only to boost your rating, but to elevate the way you think.
The real question isn’t if you’ll improve, but how profoundly our work together will transform your relationship with the game.

Find out more about Joy

  • When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

Watching my father and uncle playing when I was nine years old, I was fascinated by the charm of the magic game and asked my father to teach me how to play. I fell in love with the game instantly, and it only took me 6 months to win my first tournament.
  • What makes you passionate about your subject?

Dr. Siegbert Tarrasch, one of the greatest masters of the nineteenth century, once said: "Chess, like love, like music, has the power to make people happy."

Chess combines art, science, logic, reasoning, creativity, aesthetics, endless opportunities, and elements of adventure and empowerment to create one of the most beautiful experiences ever.
  • What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

I have always considered passing knowledge to be one of the best ways to make the world a better place! Teaching is my way of passing on my 38 years of knowledge, experience, stories, and passion to other chess enthusiasts.

It's not just about pure information! I remember being a very shy kid. Chess helped me build my confidence and express myself properly. I want to help people find their best selves by learning and playing chess!

Reading my students' reviews, I couldn't be happier, not only because of their kind words about me, but because I feel as much happiness as chess can give, the happiness I've been able to pass it on to others!
  • Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

One of the reasons I loved chess was the first chess book I ever read. The author, Grandmaster Paul Keres, not only provided an in-depth and fascinating analysis of his best chess games, but also gave insights into his thoughts and feelings during the game and wrote stories about his brilliant chess career, his opponents, the places he visited, and the tournaments in which he participated. He was called "The Ultimate Judge" because of his integrity, fairness, sportsmanship, and gentlemanly demeanor, along with his extra ordinary chess skills in evaluating positions and finding solutions. For a long time, he held the record of defeating most world champions, and was a top player for an incredible amount of time until his death on his way home from Vancouver, Canada, after winning a very strong tournament there. I was inspired by the great player and great human being Paul Keres!
  • What are your keys to success?

Success can be achieved through determination, discipline, hard work, enthusiasm, passion and consistency! My success is linked to the success of my students, and I always do my best to pass these qualities in my work, to motivate them to reach their fullest potential and achieve maximum success!
