About Simon

Educated at both Oxford and Cambridge, I spent 20 years at the BBC, training a generation of journalists before becoming a lecturer at two London universities.
Since 2009, I have been teaching specialised courses to students from school year 11 to MA level, as well as campaigning charities and NGOs. I also coach students for Oxbridge applications.
I run a not-for-profit company helping school children from disadvantaged backgrounds build confidence and make the most of themselves. Money from tutoring supports that work.
Enhanced DBS certification.

I offer a short series of focused, personalised sessions for those applying to school, college or university as well as specialised coaching for Oxbridge or employment.
Generally this means 3-4 x 50 minute sessions including a detailed (and brutally honest) CV analysis and rewriting guide. There is no theory, teaching is entirely practical.

Competition out there is tough and I will push you hard, but offer lots of support, covering everything you need to stand out from other applicants: cover letters, CVs, interviews and making presentations.

I teach tips and tricks alongside proven techniques in a fun way: transferrable skills for any situation where you need to excel.

As well as studying at Oxbridge, Russell group universities, and selective schools, former students are international TED Talkers, entrepreneurs, speechwriters at the UN, work for leading charities: one even sits in the House of Lords. Others are studying at Russell Group universities and at Oxford; it's all about understanding the basic rules of communication, and how to sell yourself.

This is not academic, it's based on what works now, not in ancient Rome. We take inspiration from Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, Dragons' Den, Steve Jobs, Dave Grohl, Barak Obama, Shakespeare and Dickens and of course over 100 years of BBC journalistic excellence.

The rates quoted here are hugely discounted and are offered to help support our not-for-profit education company. We think you can learn all you need to learn in 4 sessions - they are crammed with practical examples and there are handouts.
Generally we will finish with a simulation of a tough interview, for which you will have been thoroughly prepared this may be in a group session and will involve a guest tutor from the world of journalism.
Sessions often work well (and be more fun) with a small group and this is offered at a separate negotiable rate depending on numbers.
