About Jack
I’m passionate about philosophy and love helping others discover the transformative power of critical thinking and deep inquiry. With an MA in Modern & Contemporary Thought and years of experience in academic study and teaching, I bring both expertise and enthusiasm to every lesson. Philosophy can seem daunting at first, but I believe it’s one of the most rewarding subjects to study. My approach is to make even the most complex ideas accessible, meaningful, and engaging. Whether you’re an A-Level student tackling your first essays, an undergraduate navigating key texts, or simply someone curious about philosophical ideas, I am here to guide and support you. I tailor every lesson to suit your goals, learning style, and pace. Together, we’ll break down difficult concepts, analyse arguments, and explore how philosophy can be applied to real-world problems. I also provide structured guidance to help you write better essays, prepare for exams, and gain confidence in expressing your ideas. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy reading widely in philosophy, and literature, as well as engaging in thoughtful discussions with others. I aim to inspire not just understanding, but a lifelong appreciation for the subject. I have also spent 3 months in a Buddhist monastery in Nepal studying Buddhist philosophy.

My Approach to Tutoring Philosophy I focus on creating engaging and interactive lessons that simplify complex philosophical ideas while encouraging critical thinking and personal interpretation. My goal is to make philosophy accessible and meaningful to learners of all ages, whether they are A-Level students, undergraduates, or adults with a passion for philosophy. Techniques and Teaching Methodology Tailored Lessons: I adapt each session to the student’s needs, interests, and goals, whether it’s mastering a specific text, preparing for exams, or exploring philosophical ideas out of personal curiosity. Interactive Discussions: I encourage open discussions where students feel confident expressing their ideas and debating different perspectives. Simplifying Complexity: I use analogies, real-life examples, and step-by-step explanations to break down dense texts and abstract concepts into digestible parts. Practical Application: Philosophy isn’t just theory—it’s a tool for understanding life. I emphasise its relevance to everyday experiences, ethics, and decision-making. Critical Thinking Exercises: I teach students to analyse arguments, identify fallacies, and develop their own philosophical reasoning skills. Lesson Structure Length: Each lesson lasts one hour, divided into segments for discussion, guided learning, and practice. Resources: I provide curated reading materials, notes, and thought-provoking questions for continued exploration outside class. My Qualifications and Experience I hold an MA in Modern & Contemporary Thought, specialising in contemporary philosophy and critical theory. With a strong academic background and years of experience as a tutor, I have helped students excel in philosophy exams, deepen their understanding of key texts, and confidently engage in philosophical discourse. Who My Lessons Are For Level: GCSE, A-Level students, undergraduates, and philosophy enthusiasts. Age: All ages are welcome! My approach suits young learners tackling philosophy for the first time as well as adults seeking intellectual enrichment.
