About Mai
Hi! My name is Mai. I'm a native Japanese speaker from Tokyo and currently live near Yokota Air Base in Japan.
I work in Talent Acquisition at a deep agritech company, where I recruit bilingual Japanese-English professionals across technical and business roles.
I spent four years at a recruiting agency, helping bilingual candidates build their careers in Japan. One of my strengths is interview coaching in both Japanese and English, helping candidates communicate their experience with confidence.
I graduated from Otemae University and completed a Japanese Language Teacher Training Program, earning my teaching qualification in 2026. I also studied Accounting at Leeward Community College in Hawaii.
Outside of recruiting, I enjoy teaching Japanese and learning about different cultures. I've lived in Australia, China, Macau, Egypt, and the United States (Hawaii, Arizona, and North Carolina), and I love meeting people from around the world.

Perfect! I have recently begun learning Japanese from Mai. She is an amazing, methodical teacher with a wonderful attention to detail. She works with me on my pronunciation by repetition, which is the way I like to learn. She is also friendly and polite. She presents material that is, without being way over my head, a bit of a challenge, which I like. She is very intuitive, in that she is able to assess my learning style and competency. I would recommend learning Japanese from Mai to anyone who wants to learn the language! I will hopefully be her student for a long time!

She is a professional in both languages and can adjust her speaking style to the needs of the students very well. I like the way she explains the reason behind sentence structure and word meaning instead of just teaching for memory. She could easily be charging more, but she’s got friendly prices for students.
