I regard it as important to praise you for improving your Japanese ability. In my lesson, I mainly use Genki to build your basic Japanese ability and teach grammar theory, then talk about any topics you like using the Japanese you learnt. If you don't have the textbook, I can give you the pdf. Once you get used to reading and speaking formal Japanese, I’ll incorporate real Japanese conversation into the class. However, I’m always open to changing the style to fit your needs. So, please feel free to ask me if you have a favourite way to learn Japanese!

  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak Japanese fluently because it's my native language, and I grew up in Japan.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

    Tokugawa Ieyasu

His words, 'If the lesser cuckoo does not chirp, let's wait until it does,' perfectly illustrate his personality and the value of patience in Japanese culture.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

Senri no Michi no Ippo Kara

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

It means Everything begins with a single step whatever you do.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

It's my mother tongue, and I believe the beauty and delicacy are characteristic of the Japanese language. There are many phrases that feel deeper to me than when I hear them in any other language.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The difficulty in learning Japanese lies in using three different types of characters. You need to learn the two basic types of characters, plus Chinese characters. Grammatically, it can be challenging for English and Latin language speakers because the word order is different.

In my lesson, I teach Japanese using Alphabet at the beginning and give tips to get used to this grammar. Japanese grammar is logical, so you'll adapt by starting with simple sentences and gradually making them more complex. When learning Kanji, you can notice that some common components share the same meaning. Once you remember the basic components that form related characters, studying them becomes much easier.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

I learned English through self-study in Japan. When I was studying English as a second language, I used textbooks. I learned many phrases and words, but I wasn't able to speak fluently. When I tried to speak, I would forget the phrases I had learned. After that, I started having many conversations with different people in English. Although it was difficult to find opportunities to speak English while living in Japan, I actively looked for situations where I could practice. I made many mistakes through conversation, but now I can speak English. I realised that speaking is the best way to learn a language, so I designed my classes to focus on speaking practice and sentence building.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

When I was 21 years old, I travelled alone to Europe and the UK. At that time, I could barely speak English. While I was in Scotland, I was trying to find a station to transfer from Edinburgh to Glasgow, but I couldn't understand what the station staff were saying, and they couldn't understand me either. As a result, I missed the train, and it was the last one going to Glasgow that day, so I couldn't stay at the place I had booked. Since I was traveling alone, the loneliness and frustration reached their peak during the trip. That experience motivated me to study English more seriously, and now I teach my language, Japanese, using English and work in an English-speaking environment.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

You'll be speaking Japanese within three months with my lessons. I offer more practical and logically structured teaching compared to other teachers.

I have a six-year career in teaching Japanese and have taught over 250 students in total. I'm not a half-Japanese or someone who was born in another country, nor have I studied abroad; I learned languages through self-study. Therefore, instead of just following a textbook, I base my lessons on a curriculum built from my own experiences of learning English. Throughout my six-year career, I've developed skills by answering various questions, allowing me to teach in detail, both theoretically and grammatically, even covering aspects that native speakers or teachers who haven't studied other languages may not be able to explain.
