About Emily
I have 8 years of teaching experience and hold a Master of Science in Sports Coaching. Throughout my coaching career, I have guided beginners, scholastic players, club competitors, and ambitious tournament participants who wanted to improve both technical skills and strategic understanding. I enjoy helping students discover that chess develops concentration, logical reasoning, patience, resilience, and confident decision-making that extends well beyond the game itself.
One learner joined my coaching after reaching a performance plateau despite studying independently for several years. Together we focused on improving positional understanding, endgame technique, calculation accuracy, and post-game analysis through structured weekly training. Within a competitive season, the student achieved a significant rating increase, earned top finishes in local tournaments, and became much more confident against experienced opponents.
I believe lasting chess improvement comes from curiosity, disciplined practice, careful analysis, and the willingness to learn from every game. My coaching style creates a positive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring new strategic ideas, and steadily challenging themselves to improve. Supporting learners as they achieve meaningful milestones continues to be the most rewarding aspect of my teaching journey.
Outside coaching, I enjoy analyzing elite international tournaments, studying classic grandmaster games, solving advanced tactical compositions, and researching modern instructional methods that enhance chess education. These experiences allow me to bring fresh strategic insights, practical tournament preparation, and engaging learning activities into every lesson. I would be delighted to help you strengthen your chess skills, sharpen your strategic thinking, and achieve your personal and competitive chess goals.

I begin by assessing each student's current playing strength, experience, preferred learning style, and competitive ambitions before creating a personalized coaching program. Every lesson is designed to strengthen fundamental skills while gradually introducing advanced concepts that encourage independent thinking and consistent improvement. My coaching combines practical gameplay, theoretical instruction, and detailed analysis to help students become complete chess players.
Opening lessons focus on understanding strategic objectives, efficient piece development, central control, king safety, and flexible planning instead of memorizing long opening sequences. Students explore a variety of opening systems while learning how to recognize common tactical opportunities and avoid early positional weaknesses. Middlegame training develops calculation, tactical combinations, positional evaluation, pawn structures, piece activity, and long-term planning through interactive exercises and carefully selected master games.
Endgame instruction emphasizes practical techniques involving king and pawn endings, rook endgames, opposite-colored bishops, minor-piece endings, opposition, and converting small advantages into victories. Tactical puzzle sessions improve visualization, calculation speed, and pattern recognition while encouraging students to evaluate several candidate moves before selecting the strongest continuation. Every practice game is reviewed in detail to identify strengths, recurring mistakes, and practical strategies for future improvement.
Students preparing for school competitions, chess academies, online rating improvement, district tournaments, national championships, or FIDE-rated events receive customized training schedules, regular performance evaluations, and tournament preparation guidance. I continuously adapt coaching methods according to each learner's progress while providing structured practice routines that encourage disciplined study and long-term competitive development.
