About Thomas
I am a Geography graduate of Lancaster University, where I completed my master’s degree with a strong academic focus on geographical information systems (GIS). Having also completed a PGCE in geography, I am now a practising Geography teacher in a Manchester secondary school, where I work with students across a wide range of abilities and backgrounds.
Before entering teaching, I gained over three years of tutoring experience, including supporting pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds through the National Tutoring Programme during the COVID-19 recovery period. Having attended a disadvantaged state school myself, I understand first-hand the challenges many students face - whether that’s confidence, access to support, or simply believing in their own potential. This experience shapes my approach: patient, structured, encouraging and always tailored to the individual learner.
I am passionate about making Geography accessible, engaging and empowering. My academic interests centre on GIS and spatial analysis, but what I love most about the subject is its breadth such as how it connects landscapes, people, cultures, environments and everyday life. I aim to help students not only improve their grades, but also develop curiosity, critical thinking and a genuine appreciation for the world around them.
Outside the classroom, I’m an enthusiastic hiker and spend much of my free time exploring nature, walking new routes and engaging with the environments I teach about. This connection to the outdoors enriches my teaching and allows me to bring real-world examples and enthusiasm into every session.
Above all, I am committed to supporting any student—regardless of background—to grow in confidence, achieve their goals and realise what they are capable of.

I deliver online Geography lessons using shared, real-time documents that allow us to work collaboratively on exam questions, model answers and revision resources. These materials remain accessible after each session so students can revisit them independently. Lessons typically last an hour, though I am flexible and can offer longer sessions when preparing for assessments. With over three years of tutoring experience and current classroom teaching in a Manchester high school, I support learners of all ages and abilities. Progress is monitored closely, with clear feedback provided to build confidence and highlight key areas for development.
