Accordion lessons will focus mainly on traditional Scottish music, but can cover other genres to suit.
You will be encouraged to develop your musical ear from the start, and develop your own musical personality.
For beginners, a basic introduction to good technique and posture is important and the focus will be on learning by ear. We will learn some classic Scottish tunes, such as Skye Boat Song and Mairi's Wedding.
For intermediate players, we can work on reading music, which can be a great tool for enabling your own learning, and if you write your own tunes, really helpful!
More advanced players can cover a wide variety of material, from Gaelic song tunes to bagpipe music and fiddle tunes. Time will be given to exploring the subtleties of expression possible and you will be encouraged to put your own feeling and expression into your music.
I teach all abilities from absolute beginners to experienced players. Age doesn't matter but kids need to be big enough for the instrument, so I find 8 years old is a good time to start.
Typically I'll teach 30 minute lessons, weekly. This can be adapted to suit your schedule.
I have been fully checked as a member of Disclosure Scotland's PVG Scheme.
