About Michael
Hello! My name is Mike. I am a full-time, career tutor based in Austin, TX. I graduated from Yale University (B.A. comparative literature, 2014) and have over 10 years of tutoring experience. I work with late elementary, middle, and high school students on English, math, Spanish, and college essay composition. I graduated first in my high school class, achieved a five on all of my AP exams, and have 99th percentile scores on the SAT and ACT.
Outside of tutoring, I am very passionate about Zen Buddhism and Tai Chi and am currently apprenticed to a Tai Chi grandmaster here in Austin. My training in these practices allows me to offer specific methods and mindsets to help students who have trouble focusing. I am also trained in the Mindful Schools curriculum, a scientifically-tested, secular curriculum for teaching mindfulness to young people.

The basis of all my tutoring is connection with the student. I get to know each student as a human being and pay close attention to how they are thinking and feeling about their studies. From there, I tailor my lessons to how each individual student needs to be taught. When a student is struggling in a subject area, often all that's needed is a shift in teaching methodology, and suddenly the material resonates and comes easily. My greatest satisfaction as a tutor is seeing students get past the belief "I am not good at this" to become a confident learner. Academic success is a natural result.
