About Melissa
Hi! My name is Melissa and I'm a writer, composer, lyricist, and storyteller with over 20 years of experience working primarily in theater, film, and television. My musicals have been presented and workshopped in major off-Broadway and regional theaters in New York City and across the United States. Recently, I sold a feature film to Disney, and 4 of my TV pilots are currently being developed by producers in Los Angeles. In addition, I have won many awards in the theater industry, including the Kleban Prize, Jonathan Larson Award, ASCAP awards, and more. I am repped by William Morris Endeavors (one of the largest agencies in the world), so I also know the ins and outs of the business, so I'm available to answer any questions you might have!

I believe that everyone has a unique story to tell, so my goal is to encourage you to learn something new, find your voice, and hone your passion. I'm meticulous and organized. If you work with me, we will go over your goals and I will craft a plan for you to meet them at your own pace.
There are two types of lessons I can offer:
1. Skills-based lessons
This is for students who want to learn a craft. Are you a budding songwriter? Do you want to learn how to write a musical from start to finish? Or maybe you want to write your first TV pilot or feature film? Each lesson will be individually tailored based on what you need.
Lesson examples:
- Storytelling structure
- Character development and worksheets
- Songwriting and lyric exercises
- Script formatting (learning how to use Final Draft)
2. Project-based mentorship
This is for students who already have a project that needs feedback and guidance. Do you have an idea for a play that needs dramaturgical help? Do you have songs but are stuck on the story? Do you have a TV pilot that needs work? These classes can be regular or one-off until the project is finished.
Class examples:
- Giving feedback on story structure and character
- Working on improving dialogue
- Learning specific tools/software
- Practical, specific advice on next steps for your project
ALL lessons will be individually tailored to your needs.
