My age and experience with music gives me alot to draw from not just as a guitar player but also from a variety of different roles I've filled in the music business. I've not only played out as a professional, but I've put together showcases, ran open mics, helped bands craft business plans, promoted shows and even booked several international tours for solo singer/songwriters. I love music but I also love people. I'm passionate about what I do, professional in my approach and invested in helping you grow. I've been playing guitar for over 30 years and I mainly play acoustic blues, pop and singer songwriter style acoustic songs. I am a great teacher for beginners, espescially those who never thought they could play an instrument or be musically inclined. I am super patient and very enthusiastic about getting you to find the joy in this instrument that Ive found. Ill be your instrructor and motivator as well as your perosnal cheering section; I really do love helping people learn and grow!
In terms of curriculum, I tailor my lessons to match the vision for the type of player you want to be. My strategy is to keep the learning interesting and relevant to your musical goals and tastes. I don't have you learn 80 year old folk songs that no-one knows anymore,( unless you happen to like 80 year old folk songs.) Instead, I'll get a list of songs from you that you want to learn and start putting together lessons around those songs starting on one string/one note and building up from there. The whole time you're learning and practicing you'll be learning to songs you like and each lesson unlocks more skills for you to do more with your guitar while playing along to your favorite songs. The simple fact is that the biggest obstacle to playing how you want is practicing and learning so I try to make lessons that make practicing at least interesting if not fun. If we work hard and you put in the practice I'm confident we can get you to the point where you can play along with most popular music in 3 to 6 months (based on 2 weekly 30 minute lessons and 4 weekly 20 minute practice sessions)
I also can help you learn about songwriting and lyric writing if you are interested. I sing and play so if that's a direction you'd like to go in, I'm happy to take you there.
