About Mavis
With over 8 years of experience teaching guitar both in-person and online, I hold a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance with a focus on Contemporary Styles. My teaching philosophy centers on helping students explore compositional techniques, arranging for guitar, and creating original music. I emphasize harmonic concepts, melodic invention, and counterpoint to deepen musical understanding. I enjoy guiding students as they develop their own unique voice on the instrument. Whether you’re a beginner just starting out or an advanced player aiming for professional-level composition, I adapt lessons to fit your individual goals. I also support those interested in recording basic demos to bring their ideas to life. My approach balances creativity with solid technique, encouraging students to express themselves fully through music. I believe that learning guitar is not just about playing notes but about crafting stories with sound. Each lesson is tailored to help you grow confidently as a musician and composer. If you’re ready to dive into the joy of making your own guitar music, I warmly invite you to join me on this creative journey. Together, we’ll unlock your musical potential and have fun along the way.

My teaching approach centers on developing a strong rhythmic foundation for guitar players. I focus on rhythm guitar techniques, strumming patterns, picking dynamics, and groove development across many genres. Building solid timing and feel is key to unlocking musical confidence. I work closely with students, especially The Fingerstyle Enthusiast and The Worship Leader, providing consistent feedback tailored to their goals. Lessons are practical and designed to improve both accuracy and musical expression. You’ll learn how to keep steady time and add dynamic variation that fits each style. I encourage patience and steady practice while celebrating progress. Together, we’ll break down complex rhythms into manageable parts. The aim is to help you confidently lay down the perfect rhythm track in any musical setting. Whether you’re playing solo or in a band, timing matters most. I support each student to excel at their own pace. Music becomes more enjoyable when rhythm feels natural. This method suits all levels, from beginners to advanced players. Let’s make your guitar groove strong and expressive.
