About Jessica
For nearly two decades, I have dedicated my career to special education, teaching students aged 5 to 15. This work is especially close to my heart, as my perspective is shaped by my own family's experience with dyslexia. As a parent to three children, aged 15, 14, and 6, I bring empathy and a firsthand understanding of learning differences to my students. Professionally, I am a trained Dyslexia Specialist with expertise in the Science of Reading and various research-based reading intervention programs, including Wilson Reading System, LETRS, and UFLI Foundations. I also enjoy my roles as a volleyball and track coach, where I focus on fostering teamwork and confidence.

I am trained in both the Science of Reading and LETRS, which are both research based programs to help struggling and dyslexic students. My lessons are explicit, systematic, and diagnostic, focusing on the five essential components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The lesson follows a structured routine designed to build foundational skills and integrate them with connected text.
In short, It's systematic: Lessons follow a set plan.
It's direct: Skills are taught explicitly, not left to chance.
It's all connected: Sound work helps with spelling, and both help with reading stories.
This approach builds a strong foundation, helping students become confident and skilled readers. This process is often visualized by the Science of Reading as a "reading rope," where all these skills are tightly woven together.
