About İhsan Enes
Why You Can Confidently Learn With Me
Hello, I'm İhsan. I am a professional ney instructor and musician, combining 12 years of hands-on experience with my formal academic studies in Turkish Music.
I understand that when learning an instrument, the first thing you seek is trust. I guarantee that every piece of information I share with you is academically verified, rooted in traditional foundations, and based on "correct" methodologies. With me, you will not waste time on hearsay or unverified techniques; you will build a solid foundation from the very beginning.
I have put this academic knowledge into practice by teaching hundreds of students of all ages at reputable public institutions, such as Public Education Centers (Halk Eğitim Merkezleri) and municipal programs. This experience has taught me how to support each student's unique learning pace and individual goals.
I am not just an instructor; I am also an active artist with a professionally released album. This means I will teach you not only the notes and techniques but also how to infuse a piece with "soul" (ruh) and "style" (tavır)—the living, breathing aspect of the music.
My goal is simple: to teach you not just how to play the ney, but how to express yourself accurately and joyfully through it. I promise that under my guidance, you will embark on this journey with confident steps.

Who Are These Lessons For?
This program is designed for everyone who is enthusiastic about the ney:
Complete Beginners: (Those saying, "I've never played before," or "Is my breath enough?")
Basic Level Students: (Those saying, "I can make a sound but can't progress," or "I struggle to play pieces.")
Intermediate Level Students: (Those wanting to strengthen their knowledge of makam (modal system), transitions, notation, and technical foundation.)
Hobbyists: (Those looking to get away from work/school stress and play the pieces they love.)
Students Preparing for Music Departments: (Those seeking technical and theoretical (nazari) support for conservatory exams, etc.)
️ My Teaching Techniques and Methods
"First Breath, Then Note": I begin my lessons with fundamental diaphragm and breath control. We will never move on to rote memorization of pieces without first achieving a correct and "rich" (demli) sound.
A Balance of 'Meşk' and Method: I combine the spirit of the traditional meşk system (learning by seeing and hearing from the master) with the discipline of modern methodology (notation, exercises, and systematic progression).
Personalized Curriculum: Everyone learns differently. With my Public Education Center experience, I will draw a special roadmap for your specific goals (e.g., playing only the pieces you love, learning makam, or improvising).
Theory and Practice in Unison: I ensure you become a "conscious performer" by also teaching the makam (modal system), usul (rhythmic pattern), and the story behind the pieces we play.
How the Lessons are Conducted (A Typical Lesson Flow)
A typical lesson (usually 50-60 minutes) proceeds as follows:
Warm-up (5-10 min): A brief review of the previous lesson, breathing exercises, and practice blowing the fundamental note (rast).
Technical Etude (15 min): Specific etudes or exercises focused on the day's topic (e.g., low-register sounds (dem sesler), finger agility, transitions between notes).
New Topic / Repertoire (20-25 min): Getting to know the scale of a new makam or working on a new piece step-by-step, measure by measure.
Theory (Nazariyat) (5-10 min): Reinforcing conscious playing by understanding the makam, form, or usul of the piece being played.
Wrap-up and Assignment: Clear, achievable practice goals to focus on until the next lesson.
