About Preston
As I have stated earlier, I earned an MFA in Illustration (both Digital and Traditional) with a minor in painting and drawing. I graduated Cum Laude.
I have taught art instruction in a variety of settings. From elementary school, to high school, to college level and to private homes and businesses, I have taught art to people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. I have lived, worked and taught overseas 4 times (Norway, Denmark, England and Japan) so I am well traveled and have enjoyed interacting with people from other cultures. I know a few phrases in about 6 different languages and used to speak Spanish fluently but now, due to non-practice, I'm a bit rusty.
I have gotten high marks for my teaching methods from many students, who always feel they have gotten much more than they paid for. I have garnered awards for my artwork and have exhibited and sold my work internationally, nationally and locally. At present, I work part-time as an Art Director for a toy company called Kids, Pets & More, Inc.

I strive to make my lessons fun and educational and help the student to achieve the level of expertise they desire. My personal attention to the student's learning, understanding and gaining proficiency in the subject is my goal. Depending on the subject matter and the setting, that can take many forms.
I always supply vocabulary useful to the subject I am teaching so the student gets a familiarity with the terminology. I utilize teaching aids for demonstrations as I guide the student through the process and I go over the various tools, media and processes I'll be covering. I adjust my lessons to the level or age of the student I am teaching. Since I have taught students all the way up through college level and beyond, I feel I can comfortably teach you as well.
I have 30+ years of experience as a fine artist, illustrator and graphic designer and I use that knowledge to teach methods and ways of doing things that one can only get from experience.
A typical first lesson is a combination of meet and greet and to go over the various tools we'll be using in the class and begin to experiment with those tools. I send a list of things the student will need prior to the lesson so the student will have what they need on hand. I am looking forward to helping you gain expertise in your desired media.
