About Rebecca
I have volunteered with Beanstalk, a charity based in the Midlands who specifically work to improve literacy skills in those who have fallen behind in the classes. Volunteers worked one to one with 3 separate students, learning at their own pace for 30 minutes each, ensuring they not only felt confident in what they were reading, but understood what they were reading too. Word games were used to help students with their spelling and pronunciation of words; while board games were used towards the end of these sessions to help the student retain their learned information while also finding enjoyment with the one to ones.

My name is Rebecca Lenton, and I am currently studying a part time Masters degree in English having successfully secured a BA Honours 2:1 award in the same subject in 2014; I am looking to expand on my career goals and to help those who are falling behind in their literacy. I have volunteered with Beanstalk, a West Midlands based charity who attend primary schools in the the area specifically to aid those in KS1-KS2 who are falling behind in their literacy and have some experience in working with children from Key Stage 1.
My goal is to prove that literature can be a fun lesson to take part in and to never be ashamed of the level of work you are at. I have a wide range of texts to work from, ranging from picture books for beginners, to teenage fiction, through to more advanced works like Shakespeare, Dickens and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I aim to make the lessons as enjoyable as can be and will intersperse my lessons with word games to help students with their spelling.
