About Iwan
I have been tutoring maths for a few years to students in a secondary school. I have many successful students who have significantly greater confidence in their mathematical ability and have made significant progress.
I am currently working as a teaching assistant in a secondary school where I teach maths to small groups of students. I have also helped to conduct GCSE revision sessions for students. I teach over 60 students a week, teaching them topics which they find difficult.
I am fluent in Welsh, and so can provide lessons in either English or Welsh.
GCSE: 12A* and 2A (including A* in both Maths and Numeracy)
A-Level: 3A* and A (including A* in Maths)

Initially, I explain the required material in an easy to understand manner to make sure that students understand the fundamental theory. I always try to explain the material in more than one way, helping me to understand how the student learns best so that I can tailor my teaching to their specific ways of thinking.
However, my experience has revealed to me that students often understand the method of answering a question, however, when confronted with a difficult exam question in an unusual context they often struggle. Hence, I subsequently use a combination of resources, including problem questions and past papers, to thoroughly test the understanding of the student in different contexts. This usually reveals weaknesses in their understanding of the concept, enabling me to explain parts of the topic in greater detail to enable the student to develop a deeper level of understanding. I then go through a range of questions with the students until they fully understand all the different types of question that may emerge on the topic. After each lesson, students will be given homework to help reinforce their understanding, with any issues being addressed at the beginning of the next lesson. I am passionate about making lessons enjoyable and engaging, as I have seen that students who enjoy the subject tend to make greater progress.
