This class will be based on the programming side of developing web applications. It will focus on the basics on how to create these kinds of pages without the use of drag and drop editor tools. Students will not have to buy any software, I will provide a place where students can upload and host their sites. However students will have to install some free programs to begin their development career, I have been using these programs for years and they are secure and very trusted by me.
This class will focus on how to lay out web applications, how to find good colour schemes, creating databases and forms and visualising data. This class is not a class on how to make websites as pretty as can be through animations and other advanced techniques, however there will be a basic unit of CSS and visual design taught here.
I heavily focus on the practical side of things, with an emphasis on how and why things work. I strive to teach people in a way that is simple and easy to remember. I prefer to teach things by showing the overall effect or program, then by removing all the layers and complexity I can demonstrate on how things work and the concepts behind it. I teach my students to be very logical and methodical with how they program, and to know what they want before they program it and the steps they will need to plan before they make. The questions I like to ask is How do I do this? And Why do I need to do this?
