About Jason
I'm a media historian and researcher whose work examines how audiences are persuaded, misled, and moved by film, television, and online content. My academic writing has been published by Brill and Intellect, and I've presented at conferences across Europe and the US, including work commissioned by EU DisinfoLab. Outside research, I've spent years as a teaching assistant guiding students through the exact anxieties that come with essay deadlines and personal statements (the blank page, the argument that won't quite land, the fear of sounding unoriginal, etc.). I bring patience, close attention to your actual writing, and genuine enthusiasm for helping you find your own voice on the page.

I hold a PhD in Film & Television Studies from the University of Warwick and an MA from Columbia University, with teaching experience at both institutions covering essay writing, media criticism, and American cinema. My approach is Socratic rather than corrective: I work from your own draft or argument, asking questions that surface the structural or analytical gaps, then teach the technique needed to fix them, so the skill transfers to your next essay rather than just this one. Lessons typically run 60 minutes, though I offer 90-minute sessions for dissertation chapters or personal statement deep-dives. I tailor sessions for GCSE and A-level students working on essay technique and literary analysis, undergraduates needing structural feedback on coursework, and applicants preparing competitive university or graduate school personal statements. I also work with postgraduate students on thesis chapters and academic writing clarity.
