About Pippin
My love of history stems from the breadth of studies that it allows you to observe, there is a history of every other subject and they can all be studied from a historical viewpoint, whether that be politics, chemistry or drama. I also love history because of the depth of studies that can be found, once you have selected your time period, theme and geographical location you begin to find individuals that genuinely impacted the period of history that you are researching. Students who are tutored by me will not however be learning from written texts as often as may be thought, I'm a great believer in discussion based work which allows the student to form their own ideas and interpretations and this helps them immensely when arriving at their final exams.The online lessons I deliver will be based first around the areas that the tutees are struggling with and secondly upon the syllabus of the exam board. It is always a useful exercise to get the tutees to understand what they want from the sessions and how they think they will be able to achieve this, then once this has been established we can evaluate together the best way to achieve their goals. History will always have an element of reading and memory and so quizzes on significant dates and terms will be a key way to ensure the progress of a tutee. In an early session discussions will also be set for certain sections of the syllabus, a great sign of progression will be when the tutee requires minimal prompting from myself to create their own interpretations and ideas in response to syllabus questions. The amount of exam based writing advice and the amount of discussion work that takes place will depend entirely on the needs of the tutee as both are fundamental to grasping an excellent understanding of any historical period. Feedback on any essays completed can be analysed by myself and broken back down to the tutee so that they fully understand how to respond in their next piece of assessed work and attain a higher standard of historical writing.

Pippin is a very patient tutor and takes his time explaining things. He has an expansive knowledge of History and this is evident in his eloquent teaching. He always puts effort in to his sessions and knows how to engage with each of his tutees.
Pippin is one of the most knowledgeable people I know when it comes to history. His passion for the subject tied with his desire to help those around him make for a fantastic tutor. Even if a tutee comes with a question about a lesser-known era of history, he will put in the hours to ensure that he knows each syllabus back to front.
