About ClarenceJohn

CJ is a gifted musician who plays the guitar, keyboard, and drums. His musical journey began at the age of 8 when he started taking private guitar lessons.

His dedication and passion for music led him to become a Classical Guitar Champion in 2014 and 2015!

But for CJ, music is more than just a talent—it’s a God-given gift that he uses to serve the Lord. He currently serves in the music and youth ministries at Calvary Chapel Tagaytay City, where he has been faithfully serving for 11 years. Through his music and ministry, he has become a great influence and blessing to many, helping others grow in their love for music and worship.

About the lesson

Duration: 1 hour
Level: Beginner
Goal: Students will learn the basic parts of the guitar, simple chords, strumming, and one easy song.
Lesson Outline

1. Introduction (5 minutes)
- Introduce the guitar.
- Identify the strings and basic parts.
- Teach proper sitting and holding positions.

2. Basic Guitar Skills (10 minutes)
- Learn the six strings.
- Practice pressing the strings.
- Learn how to use a pick or fingers.

3. Learn Basic Chords (15 minutes)

Start with these four chords:
- G major
- C major
- D major
- E minor (Em)
Practice changing from one chord to another slowly.

4. Strumming Practice (10 minutes)
- Practice downward strumming.
- Count: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4.

5. Song Practice (15 minutes)
- Choose an easy song.
- Practice the chord progression.
- Play slowly and keep a steady rhythm.

6. Review and Assignment (5 minutes)
- Review the chords learned.
- Ask the student to play each chord.
- Assignment: Practice for 10–15 minutes daily.
