About Ambrose

Ambrose Edison Hall was born in Norwich. By the age of ten, he had already started writing songs and composing small pieces for orchestra such as Fantasia.This helped him to gain a music scholarship to Woodbridge school. Shortly after this, age 12 he played the piano with Rostrapovich in a composers concert, at Snape Matings

At fourteen he took up the double bass and percussion, in addition to his piano and violin studies, and wrote his first symphony at fifteen,. Suite for orchestra, ‘A Clowns Journey for String Orchestra. Reflections for wind band, Introduction and Rumba for orchestra. Saxophone Concerto.
Ambrose also conduced his own orchestra and wrote some more pop songs.

At sixteen Ambrose composed a String Quintet, Youtube Ambrose Hall. Violin Concerto. Piano sonata, act one of Opera Rumplesteiltskin
and at seventeen opera The Selfish Giant, Concerto for Orchestra.

At 17 He conducted his second symphony The Woodbridge with the Woodbridge School Symphony Orchestra, and won the Britten-Pears Music Prize for his outstanding contribution to music. In 1986 he was awarded a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama Junior department and was later given a scholarship. He achieved the highest mark for General Musicianship. By this time, Ambrose was already playing professionally,, and started professional teaching at 17.
He continued at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying double bass with Kevin Rundell, jazz piano with Lionel Grigson, and wrote a string quartet.


His professional career has involved many interesting ventures, such as: Organising and conducting the Ambrose Chamber Orchestra.. Co-arranging the string arrangements in Portishead’s award winning album Dummy, in the 100 best selling albums of all time. (1993) , and wrote Zap for Orchestra, 1994.

1995 team leader of seventy musicians, playing and running ‘Strings &Things’

Ambrose has had many residences both solo piano and with his trio, performing Internationally.

In 2005 joined Norwich UEA with a scholarship, gained the three highest marks ever in the music department, for performance (80), conducting (78) and aural (120), gaining a BA.

In 2009-10 he organised his own 50 piece symphony orchestra and gained a Mmus Master’s degree in conducting, writing a 22,000 word thesis, including an interview with the late great eminent world famous conductor Sir Charles Mackerras, on the art of conducting,
Ambrose has written a book called ‘Fluent Jazz Piano’, along composing and producing and teaching.

Orchestral compositions include ZAP, VISIONS, ETHERIUM, KALIDERSCOPE, METAMORPHOSES, PYRAMIDS OF GOLD. 3 EDM Albums and pop songs
