About Liliya
I am an artist whose interests revolve around the possibilities that music can bring not only to myself as a violinist but also to the public. My passion to collaborate with others has pushed me into the immense world of chamber music and has helped me see music making as a way of reaching out to those who need it the most. Originally from Bulgaria, I have had the opportunity to travel across Europe and America and have become a part of a global musical community that does not only bring music to life in the concert halls, but it also shows compassion and support to the ones that are unable to enjoy it in such settings. As a result of my involvement in social outreach, I was recently able to participate in a tour to Mexico, where my violin touched many people with different backgrounds in places not as privileged as one might think. I was able to bring different cultures together and to unify the listeners by making music in places that one would least expect, such as orphanages, prisons, and hospitals. What really inspires me to get involved in such kinds of projects, is my current teacher Midori Goto at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. As I have learned that music making is way more fun and enjoyable when it is shared with others, I have become a regular participant in various summer festivals, such as Heifetz Institute of Music, Madeline Chamber Music and Weimar, where I broaden my musical and collaborative experience not only as a single performer but also as a member of different chamber and orchestral ensembles. At a very young age, my artistic talent was recognized while participating in various international violin competitions, such as the “Sofia Young Virtuosos” and “Open Call”. Later, I appeared as a soloist with the “Sofia Soloists” Chamber Orchestra, performing on a violin loaned to me by the “Bulgarian National Endowment Fund”. After graduating from Idyllwild Arts Academy, I chose to continue my music education at the Peabody Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Midori Goto.

I am a huge believer of scales and exercises so I usually start my lessons with a good warm-up. That way we can avoid any injuries. I teach Suzuki method as a start until I move to more advanced repertoire.My way of teaching is very flexible as I am aware that every student is different and has a special way of learning. I usually come up with a lesson plan once I meet my students so that I know what type of music they are interested in learning - classical, pop, etc. If you are a beginner, I would start with a thorough explanation and exercises for a good set up that will help us improve in the future. I believe that learning an instrument should be fun and I make sure that my students get the best results and enjoy it as well.
