About Anne Marie
I have been teaching the violin privately in London for the last 7 years. During that time I have taught students at every level from complete beginner to diploma level. My youngest students are in their first year of primary school and the oldest students are matured students. I have helped students prepare for grade exams (grades 1 to 8) as well as various auditions and competitions such as the North London Festival.
I have gained further teaching experience though being on the faculty of the Historically Informed Summer School (HISS). During the last five summers I have coached the string ensemble as well as a wide variety of chamber groups (encompassing every possible string and wind instrument). In addition I have also been directing larger ensembles (primarily strings), and helped direct the ‘whole-course band’.
During my undergraduate studies in Denmark and my Masters’ degree studies in the United States I had the opportunity to receive instruction from some eminent teachers such as Professor Milan Vitek (Oberlin Conservatory, Ohio) and Nikolaj Znaider (now Viotti Visiting Professor of Music at the RAM) whose teaching styles have inspired my own approach to my students. Having been brought up with the Suzuki method I also seek to apply to my teaching approach the ethos that every child has potential.
As a performer I have recently co-directed performances of Bach’s St John Passion and Handel’s Messiah with my own ensemble as well as performed with orchestras in venues such as St. Paul’s Cathedral and Canterbury Cathedral. I have also been active as a chamber music performer.
