About Carrie
I am a passionate 4th grade teacher with over 25 years of classroom experience, dedicated to inspiring confidence and a love of learning in every student. I have also taught 2nd grade and 3rd grade. I bring a deep knowledge of curriculum along with a calm, supportive presence to each lesson. I balance humor with high expectations to build strong connections, I help students feel comfortable, capable, and motivated to take academic risks and succeed.

My teaching approach is supportive and clear, with a touch of humor. I break down concepts into manageable steps and check for understanding throughout the lesson. I emphasize math talk, reasoning, and strategy choice so students gain an in-depth understanding of the concepts being taught.
My lessons begin with "hook," or warm-up to activate prior knowledge and grab attention. I then introduce a learning target with clear explanations and models. I often use the "I do, you do, we do" framework as an approach in my lessons. I provide scaffolding where needed. Lessons wrap up with reflection and goal setting. Most importantly, in every lesson, I spiral back to prior lessons so as to retain and build on learned concepts.
I bring classroom expertise and a deep understanding of curriculum standards, particularly Virginia SOLs. I know common misconceptions and how to address them effectively. Families appreciate my clear communication, practical strategies they can use at home, and my ability to make learning feel approachable rather than overwhelming!
My lessons are aimed for elementary school students.
