About Andrea

Hi – My name is Andrea and I love philosophy.

I’m a current philosophy major at the University of Melbourne. I began my philosophy studies in 2022 as a Year 11 taking VCE Philosophy 3/4, achieving a final raw study score of 40. I continued on to take first-year philosophy subjects at University of Melbourne as a Year 12, where I truly flourished both academically and socially. I’m proud to have achieved an overall average of First Class Honours studying my absolutely favourites, namely Wittgenstein, Nietzsche and Socrates! My essays achieved a 90+ average in my second semester of university last year, which meant I topped my cohort of 200 in the first-year class as a Year 12.

But when I think back to my time studying VCE Philosophy, I was not at all super well-versed in the subject, or how to even *do* philosophy as a discipline. I had only had 1 semester of Year 10 Philosophy behind me before I accelerated the subject and was thrown in both the figurative and highly metaphorical ‘deep’ end. I struggled, and I’m not afraid to admit it. But now as a university-level philosophy student, regular encountering and writing on far more complex philosophical topics, I now have the dual-experience of both knowing where exactly students tend to struggle and where gaps in content comprehension might occur and more importantly, knowing how to *fix* it.

I truly love philosophy beyond doing it as a subject whether it be in school or now, university, and I find myself interacting with it on the daily (as a hobby, nerdy, I know). With the passion I have for the subject, my own experience as a VCE Philosophy student and further, more advanced knowledge beyond the study design, I am eager to help any student across the state develop the same love I have for the discipline and feel confident in undertaking their studies in Philosophy.

Each of my VCE Philosophy lessons will be:

- 60 minutes, where the first 10 minutes are dedicated to tackling questions about either the subject content or writing technique. This can look like an emphasis on revising arguments or preparing objections.

- Covering essay-writing techniques, and in late Term 3, exam timed-writing techniques.

- A consolidation of philosophical perspectives learned in class, where discussion will be encouraged. This will allow you to gain nuance + unique perspectives on each philosopher's view wowing teachers and examiners!

My goal is to encourage deep thinking about each philosopher's view, as well as preparing you with skills in critical thinking and evaluative writing to ensure your philosophy essays are top notch.

I will also provide:
✓ In-depth study design analysis
✓ Marked essay feedback upon request
✓ Comprehensive notes (standard forms / syllogisms)
✓ Insight on exam-taking strategy and SAC content
✓ Help throughout the week via text
