About Karmen
I am often described as bubbly, approachable, and genuinely supportive—qualities shaped through over 10 years of performing arts training. Outside of tutoring, I’ve always had a strong love for reading and literature, which played a major role in my success throughout VCE and continues to drive my passion for English today.
I have a genuine love for helping others, which is reflected not only in my tutoring but also in my career pathway in healthcare. Tutoring, for me, is more than just improving marks—it’s about supporting students through challenges and helping them realize what they’re capable of.
What I find most rewarding is seeing students grow in both skill and confidence. Watching a student’s hard work translate into real results, and seeing the confidence that comes with that, is incredibly fulfilling. I believe these experiences are so important, as they show students firsthand that effort and persistence truly pay off.
These skills and mindsets extend far beyond English. Developing confidence, resilience, and effective study habits are all highly transferable into adulthood, and I love being able to give students a glimpse of that—helping them feel prepared not just for exams, but for what comes next.
I aim to create a positive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable to ask questions, challenge themselves, and take pride in their progress. For me, tutoring is not just about results, but about helping students grow, build confidence, and reach their full potential.

My tutoring approach is highly personalised, with a focus on building both skill and confidence. I teach English as a structured subject—breaking down essay writing into clear, repeatable methods such as strong topic sentences, effective evidence use, and explaining the why behind ideas. I also place strong emphasis on study techniques and learning habits, as mastering these not only improves performance in English but across all subjects.
I strongly believe feedback is the key to progress. As soon as students feel ready, I encourage them to complete work under SAC/exam conditions, followed by detailed feedback. We then repeat this process so students can refine and improve over time. That said, every lesson is adapted to suit the individual—there’s no one-size-fits-all approach.
Each session is thoughtfully planned in advance, as I believe organisation is key to delivering the most effective and focused support for my students. Lessons are typically 60 minutes and include a mix of explanation, practice, and feedback, supported by high-quality self-made resources.
I graduated with a 45 raw study score in English and have been tutoring throughout my studies and beyond, working with a range of students and learning styles.
My lessons are for high school students (Years 7–12), including VCE. I support both students aiming for top results and those building confidence, always tailoring sessions to their needs.
