About Emily

Einstein once said, “Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” I am a UWF graduate with 3 years' teaching experience at a Title 1 School District. I have an English Degree, as well as a degree in Education and am now certified to teach Special Education. I have spent hours tutoring students per parents' request at their homes. I truly believe that the first rule of being a teacher is "be teachable". As a student before college, I hated school. I struggled with learning because every child thinks, moves, and reacts differently. This means that the educator must accommodate each child's own learning style and work relentlessly to not only help them succeed, but to believe in themselves and to crave knowledge. My purpose is to plant that seed. My hobbies include reading, writing, and trying to better the educational system to the best of my capability.

My purpose is to plant that seed. My hobbies include reading, writing, and trying to better the educational system to the best of my capability. I structure lessons around a child's interests. For example, I often use appropriate and relevant song lyrics to teach poetry. I use hands-on learning to keep the learning environment interesting. I use data to improve test scores. I have also been blessed to have been sent to several Professional Development sessions such as Ron Clark Academy, MECCA (technology training), and I have always shown children the respect they deserve. Not one student out of the 500+ I have taught in the past have I not gained a healthy and professional rapport with. I have learned that consistency and constant communication with parents is essential to a child's success. Because it does take a village.
