About Akash
I have completed 3 secondary education diplomas (Indian CBSE 98th percentile, Canadian OSSD 97.5% grade avg. 4.0 GPA, and IB Level 7 with HL Math & Chemistry) with Honors, and I hold a Bachelor of Science in Pure Physics (with co-op) from the University of Waterloo.
Throughout my secondary and post-secondary education, I have concurrently tutored privately as well as through local schools and tutoring agencies like Kumon and Mathnasium. With 9 years of teaching experience in both classroom and 1-on-1 settings under my belt, I have helped over 50 students achieve or exceed their educational goals, while cultivating a passion for learning and applying mathematics in daily life as well as towards their career aspirations.
My students see an average of a 15% increase in their assignment and test results, and a 12% overall increase in their course average (with 4 or more weeks left in the course schedule).

I believe that the best teaching methodology is one that is tailored to a given student's goals, and their strengths & areas of improvement. Throughout my education, I have studied and succeeded under 5 distinct curricula across 3 countries, which has uniquely positioned me to thoroughly identify the most effective path towards success in any regional curriculum.
With my experience as a substitute teacher and private tutor for the past 9 years, I have developed a system of assessment and planning that reveals the best approach for each student to most efficiently achieve their goals, without compromising on a lasting comprehension of the mathematical concepts being reviewed.
A typical session plan with me includes:
> 1 Assessment & Planning session where I determine the student's learning style and problem-solving tendencies, and we generate a pathway to achieve their desired goals within a practical timeline.
> Regular practice of fundamental mathematical methods that need to be robustly understood to succeed at the given course material.
> Introducing strategies for test-taking and developing systems for completing assignments and projects to ensure functional progress beyond conceptual and computational understanding.
> Recurring review sessions to reinforce easily forgotten principles.
This system is flexible enough to adapt to a wide variety of mathematical topics and student learning styles. My services are primarily targeted towards students taking:
> High-school level math courses in Canada, including Ontario (OSSD), British Columbia (Dogwood Diploma), and Quebec (DES)
> IB Diploma SL and HL level math courses
> Adult education certification courses (CAEC)
> Undergraduate level MATH, AMATH, and STAT courses (including cross-listed math courses from non-math faculties; excluding PMATH courses at the 300 level or higher)
I have a deep understanding of the way that learning impediments affect the tendencies and progress of students, and I appreciate the limitations of traditional schools and universities at accommodating and supporting these students. I have had the opportunity to learn and develop strategies to help over 20 students with a variety of learning impediments including dyslexia & dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADD, and ASD.
