About Sophia
Hi! My name is Sophia and I am bilingual in English and Spanish. I have experience working with English learners and I have spent the past 7 months studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain.
I have two parents, both fluent in Spanish, one a native speaker, and the other having learned Spanish by living in Central America. I have spent my life speaking, reading, and writing Spanish in conversational and academic settings.
I am a current university student and a rising senior. I work as a Lifeguard and a swim instructor when I am not in class!
My major is Psychological and Brain Sciences and I'm minoring in Spanish.

I have experience teaching teenage and adult English learners, but I also have experience teaching swim lessons to children!
Not only am I a Spanish minor, but I am also a Psychological and Brain Sciences major who has taken various developmental psychology classes.
I believe that the key to language development is speaking. Students will primarily be doing this in sessions, however, if they have homework from school, this will be something that will also be covered. We will start with a reflection on the weekend or the day before. Then, play a game of their level that requires speaking. Also, we will complete a written task that involves spoken repetition of what is written. In essence, speaking will be the primary goal of each session. However, lesson plans will be on a case by case basis, adjusting for the goals and participation of the student.
