• When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

  Honestly, it started in grade 5. I got 67 marks in the first half of the year, and my teacher told me, 'I thought you were a good student.' That one sentence hit me harder than any lecture could have. I went home and started practising – I actually solved my entire math textbook five times over. By finals, I scored 95, and from that point on, I was the class topper every year after. That moment stuck with me, and somewhere along the way, tutoring turned from a part-time thing into something I genuinely couldn't imagine not doing – because I know exactly what it feels like to go from struggling to actually believing in yourself.

• What makes you passionate about your subject?

  Honestly, it's the moment something clicks. You can see it on a student's face — one second they're stuck, and the next they're like 'oh, THAT'S what that means.' I've gotten to see that happen with a 10-year-old learning fractions and with a university student finally understanding why a derivative actually means something. That never gets old for me.

• What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

  I've been doing this for over 10 years now — everything from primary school kids to university students, and right now I'm also a Teaching Assistant for Calculus, Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations at the University of Regina. What I think makes me different is that I've genuinely taught all of it — so I'm not guessing how a topic connects to what comes next, I've watched students walk that whole path. I like meeting someone exactly where they're stuck, not where a textbook assumes they should be.

• Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

  Yes — actually, it goes back to grade 9. I started getting tutored to improve my math skills, and my teacher used to teach a small group of us together rather than one-on-one. We'd all practice the same questions side by side, and there was this healthy competition between us — everyone quietly trying to be the fastest, the sharpest, the one who got there first. My calculations got noticeably faster because of it, and more than that, I fell in love with the process itself. That group, and that teacher, shaped how I think about learning math — not as something you do alone, but something that gets sharper when you're pushed by the people around you. I ended up carrying that all the way through to a master's degree, and it's a big part of why I try to bring that same energy into how I tutor now.

• What are your keys to success?

  Patience, mostly. I never move on until a student actually gets the why, not just the steps to copy. And honestly — I try to remember what it felt like to be confused myself, because that's usually the fastest way to explain something in a way that actually lands.
