About Gianna
I am an enthusiastic and friendly 2nd year PhD student in Genetics at the University of Oxford. I have a strong passion for teaching and helping young people achieve their academic ambitions as well as develop enthusiasm for their subject. I achieved A* and A grades in my A-level Biology and Chemistry. I continued these subjects at university level, where I achieved a first-class degree in MSci Natural Sciences at University College London. I have experience tutoring A-level Biology and I also have experience teaching English to school students of various ages in China, where I was awarded a TEFL teaching qualification.

My teaching style involves addressing a topic of the student's choice each week. We would begin the lesson by addressing any knowledge gaps and ensuring that the topic is understood conceptually by the student, through clear explanations and visual aids such as diagrams. Following that, we would consolidate what was learnt by practising past exam questions relevant to the topic, to strengthen understanding of the topic and work on exam technique. Each lesson is tailored to the needs of the individual student and their preferred learning style, which I assess as the lessons progress. This will also be facilitated by more informal conversations with the student. I take time to prepare for each lesson and at the end of each lesson we can discuss which topics they would like to work on next. I can also be flexible and adapt the lesson plan during the lesson depending on the student's progress.
