About Michael
Dear students, My name is Michael and I have been a lecturer and researcher at an Irish university for almost three decades. Teaching is by far my favorite part of my academic career and I enjoy lively, informal, and engaged interactions with students both in large lecture theaters as well as one-to-one sessions. While it is important to know and demonstrate competence in the standard topics and approaches that constitute a PSI/BPS accredited degree in psychology, I also like to explore and challenge the boundaries of the discipline, whether they be methodological or philosophical. Academic writing is also something that I like to engage in and support students in terms of improving their written communication and presentation skills. I approach psychology with a real-world, applied perspective, and I believe that the true value of psychology is in its capacity to help solve real world problems.

I am a university lecturer in Applied Psychology and former head of department. I have taught mental health, social psychology, developmental psychology, research methods, conceptual and philosophical issues, research methods, environmental psychology, human-computer interaction and human factors, among other subjects.
I can teach most topics in psychology and have experience in supervising and examining dissertations at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Depending on what is required I blend the presentation of content with a problem-solving approach to learning, emphasising the constructive process on the part of the student.
Typical lessons are 50 mins in duration but can be adjusted to the needs of the student.
