Title: Introducing Daily Routines in Spanish
Level: Beginner
Objective:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand and talk about their daily routines in Spanish using appropriate vocabulary, present tense verbs, and time expressions.
Duration: 60 minutes
Materials:
Whiteboard or blackboard
Markers or chalk
Handouts with daily routine vocabulary and sentences
Clock or timer
Procedure:
Warm-up (5 minutes):
Begin the lesson by asking students about their typical daily routines in their native language.
Elicit and write some of their responses on the board.
Introduce the topic of daily routines in Spanish and explain that they will learn how to express their own routines in the target language.
Vocabulary Introduction (10 minutes):
Present a list of daily routine vocabulary words on the board (e.g., despertarse, levantarse, ducharse, desayunar, ir a la escuela/trabajo, etc.).
Pronounce each word and have the students repeat after you to practice pronunciation.
Provide simple definitions or explanations for each word to ensure understanding.
Presenting Sentence Structures (15 minutes):
Introduce sentence structures to express daily routines using present tense verbs and time expressions.
Write example sentences on the board, such as "Me levanto a las 7 de la mañana" (I get up at 7 in the morning).
Explain the word order and the use of subject pronouns.
Model pronunciation and have students repeat the sentences after you.
Guided Practice (15 minutes):
Distribute handouts with a list of daily routine sentences containing gaps for missing verbs.
Instruct students to fill in the gaps with the appropriate verbs from the vocabulary list.
Monitor their progress and provide assistance as needed.
Encourage students to work in pairs or small groups to discuss their answers and practice pronunciation.
Communicative Practice (10 minutes):
Divide the class into pairs or small groups.
Instruct students to take turns asking and answering questions about their daily routines using the vocabulary and sentence structures learned.
Set a timer to ensure equal participation and give each student a chance to practice.
Wrap-up and Review (5 minutes):
Conduct a brief review of the vocabulary and sentence structures covered in the lesson.
Ask students to share any new or interesting information they learned about their classmates' daily routines.
Provide feedback and address any questions or difficulties that arose during the practice activities.
Note: Throughout the lesson, provide opportunities for students to practice pronunciation, ask and answer questions, and engage in meaningful communication using the target language. Adapt the activities and language complexity based on the proficiency level of your students.
