About Haylie
At the core, I'm just a slightly crazy Kiwi-Californian runner who loves to travel and get to know the world. I currently work in the international development space, but I've also taught in schools, coached athletes, developed programs, mentored leaders and youth, and worked as a researcher, student support worker and ministry leader.
I attended high school and some university classes in the States, but did my bachelor's at the University of Otago in New Zealand, majoring in Education and Politics with a minor in TESOL. I then went on to complete my master's in International Development at the University of Edinburgh (with honors distinction), focusing on post-conflict community rebuilding. My research and published work have influenced a lot of my theories for supporting communities globally, but most especially that an individualized, tailored and holistic support network is key to helping people progress in almost every arena!
I have a strong background in international relations and diplomacy, cross-cultural communication, and supporting students. My deep love for people and curiosity have always lent useful in coming alongside communities and supporting them where they need it most.

With all the old school and new ways of approaching supporting students, we know for each of us that it's hard to grow in something we don't care about. That's why I like to work with students to build on what matters to them, employing a relational-based approach to come alongside you in your journey. Each lesson is centered around your goals and helping you grow in your potential.
Whether a master's dissertation (thesis for my Americans!), creative short story, political speech, or personal essay, any form of writing and the English language is so heavily based around finding your voice. In my lessons, I work with you to find the confidence and structure to eke out the nuance of what you want or need to communicate.
So, if you need help understanding concepts, writing, editing, proofreading or polishing, structuring or brainstorming ideas, speaking confidently, or helping solidify what you've learned, I am here to help!
My lessons would best suit upper high school or university students and non-native English speakers for classes relating to English, politics, international affairs or development, literature, history, economics, writing, essay/exam prep, research and research development, and application/CV support.
