About Joel
I'm in my second year of a Bachelor of Music (Interactive Composition) at the University of Melbourne. In high school I received the Northern Territory Music Award from the NT Board of Studies in 2018, as well as a Certificate of Merit in Year 12 SACE Music. I play classical guitar at an AMEB grade 8 level, and have studied jazz guitar at the Jazz Workshop Australia Summer Camp 2019 and 2020.
I have real-world performance experience, having played guitar, bass and vocals at a range of venues, including the Darwin Festival, Darwin Fringe Festival, Happy Yess and Darwin Entertainment Centre. I also have concert band experience, having played bass and guitar in the Darwin High School Concert Band, and Guitar 1 in the pit orchestra of the Beat Festival 2018. I have also helped organise and publicise numerous local music events around Darwin.
I'm new to guitar teaching, and new to Melbourne, but I'm not new to teaching as a whole: I co-founded and co-ran the debate club at my high school, mentoring (and being on) the NT nationals team and first-place territory team. I have also taught friends guitar in a non-professional capacity.

My classes are flexible, catering to the interests and needs of each student. Students wanting to learn classical guitar up to an AMEB grade 8 level, guitar or bass for gigging or concert band settings, modern classical composition, songwriting, or any other niche can apply - lessons will be based around the student's needs and desired outcomes.
