About Chelsea
My name is Chelsea Zhou, and I am a sophomore at the University of Washington. I am pursuing a B.S. in Informatics and a B.A. in International Studies with a concentration in Technology, Security, and Diplomacy. I am passionate about learning more about global politics because I aspire to make a change in this world. While I am still at the beginning of my career, I value accessibility in my own work and it drives my passion for an educational role where I can help students learn their core subjects, but also help them learn more about themselves and their future aspirations. I intend to pursue a law degree with a focus on international business and technology policy, enabling me to bridge the gap between innovation and global collaboration. I am confident that I can leverage my creativity and communication skills to make a positive impact. This summer, I am working as a Business Development Intern at Ghost Social, an AI startup founded in Chicago, Illinois that aims to help people form authentic, high-quality connections by eliminating swiping and public profiles through a private, voice-based AI experience. My main role as an intern was to reach out to organizations, influencers, and event venues to establish partnerships and strengthen community initiatives. But during my time in this role, I helped lead social media campaigns, creating content on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, and X leading to a 70% increased engagement and expanded Ghost Social’s digital presence. Additionally, I assisted in backend web development and contributed to designing the website using Webflow and Figma, helping to enhance both functionality and user experience. While this internship gave me the opportunity to be involved in the development of a new business, it taught me valuable lessons on the business strategies that engage, persuade, and mobilize audiences. These experiences have strengthened my ability to analyze business marketing strategies and implement them in vastly different positions, which I hope to bring to the team. During my time at the UW, I developed a strong foundation in patent law and information assurance as a Patent Intern at the UW CoMotion. I had the opportunity to collaborate with patent lawyers at UW CoMotion, a firm dedicated to UW innovators by offering support in intellectual property protection, and conducted technical research, verified patent claims, and assisted in drafting invention disclosures. Working with lawyers taught me the importance of precision, collaboration, and protecting innovations. These are all values that translate seamlessly into the innovation space, where strategic thinking and attention to detail are critical to brand success. My interdisciplinary background has trained me to approach problems analytically while considering broader social implications, skills that I am eager to carry over. I am particularly excited about the opportunity to contribute to innovative marketing strategies that connect with people in meaningful ways, while also learning from a company that leads with creativity, efficiency, and impact. Overall, I am confident that my technical and non-technical experiences have prepared me well and I am confident I can implement these skills in the field of education.

My teaching approach is centered around the student, focusing on building subject mastery. I tailor lessons to the student's learning style, whether they are a visual learner, problem solver, or prefer interactive discussions. I break down complex concepts into parts, and gradually increase difficulty to ensure long-term retention. I also emphasize active learning through practice problems, real-world applications, and regular feedback. Typical Lesson Plan Recap (5–10 mins): Quick review of the previous session. Content (20–30 mins): Introduce or deepen their understanding of the topic using examples, demonstrations, or guided explanations. Application (20–25 mins): Work through problems, case studies, or exercises together, then allow them to work independently. Reflection (5–10 mins): Summarize key takeaways, answer questions, and set small, achievable goals for the next session. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor Rather than purely teaching the material, I emphasize teaching the ability to learn to students. I want students to learn critical thinking skills, study strategies, and time management through my lessons because these skills will carry on with them through the rest of their life. My background in both technical and interdisciplinary fields allows me to connect seemingly different concepts and adapt them into my lessons so I can resonate with each of my students. Who the Lessons Are For My lessons are designed for: Elementary/middle school students brushing up on subjects they have trouble with or want to be more prepared for more advanced coursework in high school. High school students preparing for standardized tests, AP classes, or foundational subjects.
