About Alf
I am a chemistry graduate and proudly achieved the best score in my year at university.
However, at school I was a good student who really struggled with exams. I spent a long time at university figuring out the different methods that make examinations work for me, and I now want to share my methods with young people that feel like I did.
I found a good structure is the key to learning any subject. It also involves understanding what an examiner expects and does not expect you to know.
Alongside high level knowledge of some tricky subjects, I want to share with you my techniques on how to prepare for an exam and ace your tests.

I base my work on the national curriculum, with a focus on teaching the way to answer exam questions in the way the examiner wants to see.
I aim to work closely with students, building up a rapport and creating a safe environment where no question is a stupid question, and no answer is a silly answer. I like to get a feel for the particular topics that a student struggles with, but also will challenge them on topics they think they are capable of.
I use a varied set of techniques in my teaching, such as: building up a set of ideas in a straightforward and logical manner, using analogies in order to explain complex topics and past exam questions.
I do not like to set homework, as students already receive enough from school! However, I start each lesson with some questions about the previous sessions topic, which the student can choose to work through prior to the next session or during the session as they like.

I came across Alf on Superprof and he then worked with me to get me through my chemistry A Levels. It was the subject I was struggling with most but his friendly style and engaging way of getting complex points across has meant I’ve landed a spot at my dream uni. Thanks Alf !!
