About Ava
I have experience tutoring in mathematics and computer science during high school, and I’m now applying those same principles to tutoring mathematics and English at a professional level. My previous tutoring experience, along with my time as a software engineering intern, has equipped me with the ability to break down complex problems and communicate effectively with students of various levels.
I take pride in creating a structured yet flexible learning environment, where students feel confident asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process. Professionalism is key to my approach, from being well-prepared for every session to maintaining open lines of communication with students and parents about progress. My aim is to help students not only improve their academic skills but also to build their confidence in problem-solving and critical thinking, equipping them for future success.

I am a UCLA alumni, who studied Mathematics of Computation and graduated in June of 2024. When I tutor, my approach is student-centered and adaptable, focusing on each student’s unique learning style and strengths. I employ a combination of interactive techniques, such as asking guiding questions that encourage students to think critically and discover answers on their own. For mathematics, I emphasize building a strong conceptual foundation rather than relying on memorization, while in English, I focus on developing critical thinking and analytical skills. I also incorporate tools like visual aids and apps to make abstract concepts more tangible and engaging. A typical lesson starts with a quick review or diagnostic warm-up to assess retention, followed by a deeper exploration of current topics or problem areas. Throughout the session, I provide constructive feedback to ensure the student recognizes their progress and areas for further development. What sets me apart is my ability to adapt to different learning styles and create an interactive, supportive environment that promotes active engagement and continuous improvement.
The lessons I design are primarily for high school and middle school students, covering mathematics and English subjects such as algebra, geometry, calculus, reading comprehension, essay writing, and grammar.
