About Sherilynn
Hello! My name is Sherilynn Peng, and I recently graduated from UC Irvine with a bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Sciences and a minor in Management. I am passionate about learning and education, and I enjoy helping students become clearer, more confident English speakers.
I grew up in a household where Chinese was spoken and later studied Chinese abroad in Taiwan. Although I am not fully fluent, this background has given me a basic foundation in Chinese and familiarity with some of the pronunciation differences Chinese speakers may encounter when learning English. I understand that improving pronunciation can feel uncomfortable or intimidating, so I aim to create a patient and supportive environment where students can practice without fear of making mistakes.
Through my cognitive science coursework, I studied the cognitive and neurological processes involved in learning, as well as research-backed strategies for building new skills. I apply this knowledge by breaking pronunciation into manageable steps, providing clear feedback, and adapting lessons to each student’s goals and learning style. Depending on the student’s needs, we may focus on individual sounds, word endings, stress, rhythm, intonation, connected speech, or conversational fluency.
I was named to the Dean’s Honor List at my school. My campus involvement also strengthened my communication, leadership, and organizational skills. My goal is not to completely erase a student’s heritage, but to help them communicate more clearly, naturally, and confidently in academic, professional, and everyday situations.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy journaling, listening to podcasts, visiting art museums, trying new coffee shops, and spending time with friends. I look forward to learning about your speaking goals and supporting you throughout your English-pronunciation journey!

My lessons are designed for native Chinese speakers who want to improve their English pronunciation, reduce communication difficulties caused by their accent, and speak with greater clarity and confidence.
Each lesson is personalized to the student’s current speaking ability, goals, and learning style. We may work on English sounds that are commonly challenging for Chinese speakers, including consonants, vowels, final sounds, word stress, sentence rhythm, intonation, and connected speech.
Lessons may include conversation practice, reading aloud, listening exercises, pronunciation drills, and repetition with detailed feedback. Students may also bring interview responses, presentations, class assignments, workplace materials, or everyday conversations they would like to practice.
My teaching style is patient, supportive, and flexible. My goal is to help students speak English more clearly, naturally, and confidently in academic, professional, and everyday situations.
