About Eleanor

I am a Cambridge-educated historian with a strong academic record and a genuine enthusiasm for helping students achieve their goals. I graduated with a Double First with Distinction in History and Modern Languages from the University of Cambridge before completing an MPhil in World History with Distinction. I received distinctions in both my undergraduate (79) and master's dissertations (75).

Having experienced the demands of competitive university admissions and advanced academic study myself, I understand the importance of clear guidance, constructive feedback and a supportive learning environment. I bring a thoughtful, organised and encouraging approach to every lesson, adapting my teaching to each student's individual strengths, needs and ambitions.

Alongside my academic background, I have experience tutoring students of different ages and abilities, helping them develop their confidence, communication skills and academic independence. I particularly enjoy helping students recognise their own potential, express their ideas clearly and approach challenging tasks with greater confidence.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is personalised, supportive and focused on helping students develop the skills and confidence to achieve their academic goals. Having completed both my BA in History and Modern Languages and my MPhil in World History at the University of Cambridge, I understand the demands of competitive university admissions and high-level academic work firsthand.

University applications and entrance preparation
- I help students navigate the university application process, from identifying suitable courses and preparing personal statements to developing interview technique and communicating their academic interests with confidence. My approach focuses on helping students identify and articulate their strengths, experiences and intellectual interests in a compelling and authentic way.

Academic writing, theses and dissertations
- I work with students to strengthen their academic writing, develop clear arguments, structure essays effectively and engage critically with evidence and scholarship. Whether you are planning a dissertation, refining a thesis or working towards a more polished piece of academic writing, I offer constructive feedback and practical strategies tailored to your needs. I aim to help students become more independent, confident writers.

CV writing and academic publishing
- I also support students and graduates with CV writing, helping them present their experience and skills effectively for academic and professional opportunities. For those interested in publishing their work, I can offer guidance on developing a piece of writing for publication and understanding the academic publishing process.

Lesson structure and teaching methodology
- Lessons are tailored to each student's goals, experience and learning style. Sessions typically last 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged for more substantial projects. We might work through a personal statement, plan an essay, review a piece of writing or practise university interview questions. I combine discussion, worked examples, structured exercises and detailed feedback, with clear next steps to help students continue progressing independently.

Qualifications and experience
- I hold a BA (Hons) in History and Modern Languages from the University of Cambridge, awarded a Double First with Distinction and ranking second in my cohort in my graduating year, and an MPhil in World History, completed with Distinction. My undergraduate dissertation was awarded a mark of 79, and my postgraduate dissertation was awarded mark of 75 (both First Class with Distinction). Alongside my academic background, I have experience tutoring students in History, English and supporting the development of their academic skills, as well as university admissions.

My lessons are suitable for sixth-form students preparing for university applications, undergraduates working on essays and dissertations, postgraduate students developing advanced academic writing, and graduates seeking support with CVs and publishing. Whatever your starting point, my aim is to help you work towards your goals with clarity, confidence and independence.
