About Michael
I have been a teacher for 39 years. For 29 of those years I was also a teacher trainer delivering courses at all levels from those focusing on teachers just starting out to those who were experienced enough to be working towards a Level 7 qualification. For 19 years I was also an assessor of teacher training courses on behalf of Cambridge University. I was Director of Teacher Training at at two different educational institutions and have also worked as an educational consultant for institutions looking to establish themselves as teacher training centres. For the last six years I have worked as an 11+ tutor and as an exam access arrangements assessor, helping students with a variety of specific learning differences.

Lessons are based on the needs and the personality of the student. After all, everyone's different. To start with I will do a few diagnostic tests with a new student. These tests are age-standardised very specifically and are fine-tuned to take into account how old a student is in terms not just of years, but in terms of years and months. The tests are not available to the general public and only Educational Psychologists and highly qualified professionals who have successfully completed an appropriate two-year Level 7 (Masters level) course have access to them. Once I have analysed the results I will be in a position to formulate an individual plan for that student to ensure that I can work with them on their weak areas so that they are able to fulfil their potential. During lessons I listen - carefully - and ask questions. By asking the right questions and listening carefully to the answers it's nearly always possible to guide students towards discovering the right answer for themselves. And when that happens there's increased confidence, self-belief and interest on the part of the student. It's also far more likely that what they have learned will stay in their long-term memory.
