About Sam
I am an experienced teacher with wide ranging musical knowledge and interests. I've performed in a variety of settings (orchestras, choirs, folk bands, community groups) and have worked in music education for 8 years. I am an oboist and composer, currently working towards a PhD in Composition. Music education is very important to me, and I want as many people to experience the joy of music in as many ways as possible.

I start by finding out what the student already knows, and then apply that knowledge to other concepts within music theory (e.g. if they know keys, then they can start to learn interval types). I can also take students from little to no music notation knowledge to be able to confidently read music at an intermediate level quite quickly. I generally teach between 30 mins-1 hour, depending on the student.
I've been teaching for over 7 years, and can cover a wide range of topics confidently. I currently work at ABRSM and know their theory qualifications very well, and can help guide students through the exam content and set up.
