About Kern
I think we are all life long learners. I am someone who is curious in the natural world. I am always seeking to try and understand the underlying mechanisms for why things are the way they are. This goes from human behavior and geopolitics to art and science. I have discovered that it does not matter what the subject is, the basic elements of learning are the same.
I have decided I will try share some of my learnings as a tutor. Mainly, the things I wish I could have told myself when I was younger.
I have currently taken a break from my work as CQV Engineer to finish the two courses I started two years ago.
If you do choose myself to assist in your learning journey, I will make it my duty that you will be better off with my help than without.

My learning philosophy is that understanding is the priority. This means attitude and awareness are as important as how long you spend reading and practising your subject.
Before the lesson, I need to know what you are struggling with. After identifying the problem, we would break it into more manageable blocks or units of information. Once broken down we will look at each block with a different perspective. This will further identify the exact area where the breakdown of understanding occurs. Once identified we need to develop a new way to understand this unit of information and then rebuild the blocks of information for ourselves. Once we do this, we need to test our latest model of understanding to see if it holds.
Each lesson will be based on how difficult the student finds the topic with a max time of one hour per session.
I have taught as a chemistry tutor during my undergraduate in biology for first and second year college students, and I have taught primary school English and Maths.
These lessons are for any level from secondary school to college.
