About Scott
I have retired from the workforce and and now have the freedom and the time to indulge in my passion for teaching English and Critical Thinking. I enjoy being in a position to contribute to the education of a new generation of students in New Zealand and internationally.
This site lists a fee structure. However, I will also assist students at no charge...that is not no cost. I will allow any student to decide the value of my contribution and pay that amount. This is based on my belief in the traditional Maori practice of koha. The essence of which lies in its voluntary nature and its intention. The giver chooses what to offer, guided by their ability and the esteem held for the recipient; it is not a fee and it is not always money. The act itself communicates mutual respect and the value of the relationship.

One hour lessons, once or twice a week and tailored to the needs and abilities of each individual student. I have a relaxed and informal teaching style but high expectations for my students. Most lessons cover grammar and vocabulary as well as the academic thinking in exams and essays.
I draw on over 20 years of experience with both native speakers and second language learners.
My qualifications include a Ph.D in Education, a BA in English Language Teaching, and a TESOL certificate. I have lectured and tutored at university level.
My lessons were originally intended for high-school or early university students, but I have had great success with younger learners who are excited by learning.
