About Lumko
I started out as a baby, born in the late 1900s from a nation and culture which brought South Africa its first two democratically elected presidents, a Rugby World Cup captain and a Miss Universe and among other notable achievements. Having the privilege and good fortune of a gracious and quite sacrificial single mother, I graduated from the prominent northern Johannesburg private high school St Stithians Boys College with 6 out 7 subjects having distinctions as well as with the Sandton Mayors Award. This well honed culture of excellence bled into my college studies where I studied a BBA in Brand Management, a BA in Live Performance and an Associates Diploma in Musical Theatre - all of which gave me various opportunities to tutor college level students and extra-curricular arts scholars. Not long after though, in 2018, I began tutoring school children whilst engaging in entertainment as well as social development work in my early career. A short two years later as the Corona Virus pandemic would set foot in Africa and cause wide spread national shut-downs, and as such teaching became my primary focus and means and it really allowed me to dedicate all my energy to the scholars and families who've entrusted me with their learning goals prior to and during this time. As we emerge slowly but surely into the new normal of reality after the shock of the pandemic, I continue to teach to see the fruition of my scholars hard work. I continue to teach to raise funds towards post-graduate studies in the management, governance and investment of my aforementioned interest in social development work. I am keenly interested and excited by the opportunities Social Innovation, Social Enterprise Investment and Governance offers towards creating new microcosmic parallel societies that are meeting the needs and means of communities outside of and without the failed pledges of governments, politicians and purely capitalistic oriented private corporations. I also continue to teach so I can inspire the thoughts and hopes of future generations to believe they can actively design a future of opportunities that create the reality and society they imagine. My focus for my learners goes beyond the subject matter of school subjects - our higher focus are the soft and tactic skills that empower us to design the future and ensure we meet every goal we as aspire to achieve. Enquire - Experience - Excel! It's as easy as that.
Enquire - send a short message of enquiry to let me know about your learners grade and school, their challenges with the subject and family's learning goals for the year. This will allow me to prepare for the appropriate grade, skill level and learning style for the subject.
Experience - I offer not one BUT 3 free 45 minuet Experience-The-Tutor lessons so that I can:
- meet and greet the scholar and family
- onboard the scholar and parents for free onto the Microsoft Teams platform I use for teaching
- do a skills assessment,
- receive and see the school content,
- plan a learning road map
In these sessions I share with you how I check-in on the week-to-week school curriculum being learned, review homework and tasks given, present questions that could be asked in assessments, and collaborate virtually on exercises and worksheets to practice and reinforce skills.
Finally, all that's left to do is put in the structures to start excelling. As a family you will be able to decide on the frequency, time and days of the lessons, what technology gear and learning environment will work best for the lessons and you may choose whether to align lessons with the week-to-week school curriculum and classes or whether to focus on specific subjects and skills. As we progress, I will be monitoring skills, confidence and school marks to track progress.
