My Approach to Tutoring and Teaching Methodology
Techniques and Teaching Methodology:
My approach to tutoring is rooted in experiential and engaging learning. I incorporate a variety of techniques to ensure each lesson is not only educational but also enjoyable for young learners. Here’s how I structure my classes:
Experiential Learning:
I believe in hands-on, interactive learning experiences. By engaging all the senses, children can better understand and retain new information. Activities might include tactile games, visual aids, and interactive storytelling.
Fun with Props:
I use an array of props to make learning fun and memorable. Puppets, flashcards, and other visual tools help bring the lessons to life, making abstract concepts more concrete and understandable.
Lindamood Techniques:
I incorporate Lindamood-Bell strategies, which are proven to help struggling readers, particularly those with dyslexia. These techniques focus on developing the sensory-cognitive processes that are critical for reading and comprehension.
Typical Lesson Length:
Each lesson is structured to last one hour. This duration is optimal for maintaining the attention span of young learners while providing ample time to cover key concepts and practice new skills.
Qualifications and Experience:
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (B.A. ECE).
I have extensive experience as a preschool principal, which has provided me with a deep understanding of early childhood development and education.
I am trained in special needs education, ensuring I can effectively support children with diverse learning requirements, including dyslexia and other reading challenges.
I am a published author of a phonics series, demonstrating my expertise in teaching reading and phonics.
Target Audience:
My lessons are specifically designed for young children aged 4 to 7 who are struggling readers. This includes children with dyslexia, as well as those for whom English is a second language. I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each child, helping them build a strong foundation in reading and fostering a love for learning.
By combining these methodologies and leveraging my extensive experience, I strive to create a supportive and stimulating environment where young learners can thrive and develop their reading skills effectively.
