About Abby
I am a kind, calm and patient tutor who believes that every learner is capable of achieving their best with the right support and encouragement. I take a nurturing approach and am always happy to try different methods and strategies until we find what works best for you. I love the word “yet”—it’s not that you can’t do something, it’s that you can’t do it yet. I don’t see mistakes or difficulties as failures; they are simply another step towards understanding how you learn best. Through positive reinforcement and building confidence, my aim is to help learners become more independent, believe in their abilities and feel proud of their progress.

I can tutor primary aged students from reception up to year 6, supporting with a range of phonics, reading, English, Maths and Science skills. Each of the sessions, resources and follow-up tasks will be completely tailored to the child following a scheme that ensures progression. Different methods will be explored to allow pupils to find the best way for them to learn through exciting and different tasks and adequate challenges. My aim is to help students understand 'why' as I found this to be the biggest reason pupils move from just doing to understanding. Lessons will typically be an hour but can vary in length depending on the pupil, which will be decided after the first 'get to know' first. I am a University of Leeds graduate and am currently training with the University of Sunderland completing my PGCE to gain qualified teacher status at the end of the 2027 academic year. I have been a teaching assistant for 4 years and have also been a nanny and worked in numerous childcare settings.
