About Nick
I'm an experienced university tutor and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), and I've worked with students from GCSE to A Level and undergraduate study. I have subject expertise in History, English, and Sociology, but I also tutor across a wide range of other essay-based subjects. My teaching style is friendly, flexible, patient and encouraging, and I have experience supporting students with diverse learning needs. My teaching focuses on three core areas: building knowledge, applying it effectively in essays, and growing confidence. I work with each student to identify areas for improvement and develop a clear, structured plan. Sessions are engaging and varied, using a range of tasks and activities to keep things fresh and productive. We can focus on mastering core skills or take a more advanced approach geared towards reaching top grades - it all depends on what works best for you. I also offer support with study and revision techniques that can boost exam performance and reduce stress. Each session usually includes a quick check-in to review progress, a focus activity tailored to your goals (like tackling a tricky concept or practising essay skills), and time for feedback. There's always space to ask questions, revisit anything you're unsure about, and leave with clear next steps.
